Lyricists

For someone whose profession is to write, the vast majority of them are thick as a McDonald’s milkshake.  Nowadays, they write about any sort of nonsensical shit but they’re guaranteed sales because their fan base is just as stupid — consisting of little kids with sheep mentality but that’s not the point I’m trying to make.

Motown — Grammatically inaccurate pioneers

No matter how influential the Motown scene is considered, quite a few of them can’t grasp the concept of double negatives and it rubbed off onto many genres of today’s music that has its roots in ’60s Detroit.  Doing a scientific study on iTunes, I’ve found at least 17 songs guilty of having ‘ain’t and ‘no’ in the title, in that context.  Of those 17; 13 of the performers are American (which include Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, twice), 2 are British and the other two are Australian and Canadian.  I think that says more about the education system of those countries, if anything.  On the flipside, the total number of results for the correct and recommended ‘ain’t’ and ‘any’ stands at 0, isn’t that a shame…

One exception to this is Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 2”, with the line ‘we don’t need no education / we don’t need no thought control‘ because obviously, they need education and they know that.  I know to some, double negatives like that seem clever and that’s because they’re stupid and reckon ‘ain’t no’ is an acceptable substitute for ‘ain’t any’, or the nonslangular ‘isn’t any’.  That’s why you should not underestimate the power of stupidity in large groups, then it makes it easier for incorrectness to become commonplace.
